Have you considered appointing a Sustainability NED?
Is your business serious about embedding sustainability but wants to move faster? Maybe you have the ambition but not the skills and knowledge. A Sustainability Non-Executive Director (NED) might be the answer.
Such a NED would be committed to and embedded within the business. He or she would be appointed on a part-time basis to lead on sustainability. They would ensure that sustainability is considered not only in all strategic decision making, but throughout the operation. They would ensure that Carbon Reduction targets are in place and being met, providing the necessary expertise and knowledge to implement an action plan.
A Sustainability NED would ensure that the right decisions and actions are made, at the right time, and have quantifiable business benefits. They would work with the business’ marketing department to ensure robust and effective messaging.
As we’ve discussed before, a business’s sustainability agenda is often delegated a person who has other priorities and pressures. That person may not feel fully confident in the role, and hence may be shy to taking bold action. A NED would relieve some of that pressure, and would be able to be more efficient in making progress.
Our team at The Clean Tech Business Group are all seasoned sustainability professionals, from a range of business backgrounds, and we’re all eminently qualified to act in such a role. Come and talk to us.
