The Clean Tech Business Group represents a collective of highly impactful and experienced business coaches and sustainability specialists, all of whom have experience and skills relevant to the Net Zero Carbon business opportunity.

The breadth of our experience is second to none. It spans start-up businesses in Clean Tech through to successful careers in blue chip multi-nationals.

What sets us apart is our unique business improvement abilities combined with the sustainability edge. We don’t just understand sustainability and the demands of Net Zero, we understand Business and businesses work and what they and their owners need.

Our starting point is always the business owners ambitions and visions for their business. From there we develop strategies and build Action Plans for Success. We don’t write reports that sit on shelves. We deliver solutions.

Our agile and flexible business model and wide ranging networks mean that we can also access very specific technical skills where needs be.

Ewan Bent

Ewan has a degree in Environmental Technology, and a 20 year career in Renewable Energy, the highlight of which was founding, and growing over 11, years a pioneering, highly successful and award winning biomass fuel business.

Since 2015, he has bought this experience as an entrepreneur to bear for the benefit of others as an active and impactful Business Coach, Mentor and Consultant. Ewan now works almost exclusively with SME’s in the clean tech and environmental goods and services sectors, and has a real passion for supporting start-ups and early stage businesses.

Ewan is the founder of the Clean Tech Business Group ltd, and of the Clean Tech Network.

He is based in the West Midlands.

Simon Shuker

Simon is a civil engineer and Director who has worked in infrastructure, renewable energy and utility sectors for more than 30 years. He has led multi-disciplinary teams in tendering, winning, designing, developing and constructing multi £m schemes, many of which are award-winners for his novel technical ideas and alternative approach.

An accredited business advisor, he concentrates on start-up, growth and new markets for technology and engineering based businesses and their supporting professionals.

He has strong expertise in identifying and forming R&D tax credit claims across all businesses and professional sectors, especially farming, renewable energy innovation, hydrogen industries, manufacturing, utilities and construction.

He is based in the South West.

Simon has over 25 years of senior leadership experience in driving R&D, lean supply chain, quality & continuous improvement within the global power and aerospace sectors. In 2017 he left GE to refocus his career on providing consultancy services to SMEs, particularly within the clean technology sectors. 

He supports businesses particularly on Product Management, either as a startup or as part of diversification, and the development of their formal business management systems such as ISO9001 and 14001 to improve business performance. Simon has a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He is based in the West Midlands

Simon Ball

Starting his career in R&D, Simon has worked in a range of businesses in senior roles, including at Jaguar Land Rover and Amazon. He has international experience having worked in the USA for 10 years, and was responsible for inter-company technology transfer with the UK, Germany and Austria. 

Simon supports companies in claiming Research & Development Tax credits, including a number of innovative businesses focused on net zero or low carbon solutions. Previously responsible for business systems for a manufacturing SME, he is experienced in the ISO14001 environmental standard.

He is based in South Wales.

Alastair Cameron

Alastair has wide experience in innovative businesses ranging from heavy engineering through electronic assembly to microbiology. He worked with the offshore and nuclear sectors in technical roles early in his career, and then moved into operational management roles with a strong emphasis on ISO management system certification for high integrity industries. Alastair is knowledgeable on UK Research & Innovation schemes, and helps companies identify and apply for appropriate funding opportunities.

He works with companies bringing innovative products to market, ensuring that regulatory hurdles are fully considered and addressed at an early stage. He has developed detailed knowledge of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme for small scale power generation.

He is based in North Wales.

John Mather

John worked at PowerGen for their first 5 years where he was responsible for trading 1/3rd of the UK Power Station capacity in to the Wholesale Market. Then he went to work for Powercor Australia, but as soon as they were privatised 6 months later, he was asked to join the Government’s Privatisation team where he helped design the market rules and regulations for Australia’s National Electricity Market with 5 other Governments and the then world’s first Spot Gas Market.

More recently he helped coordinate the start of the All-Ireland Electricity market, working in both Dublin & Belfast and has worked in various countries critiquing & developing the electricity market rules in Nigeria and Oman, leading PMOs. John has 3 degrees and is a Prince2 Practitioner and is now based in Kent, but works across the UK.

Melissa Mooney

Melissa has a postgraduate diploma in Environmental Management and has spent over 20 years working in food and packaging manufacturing for companies such as Allied Mills, part of Associated British Foods, and SME’s such as Westons Cider working with quality, environmental and health and safety systems and standards.

Melissa is passionate about sharing the considerable knowledge gained over 20 years to help SME’s improve their quality and environmental management systems and gain certification to ISO14001 and ISO9001. This includes support with understanding environmental legal requirements, auditing and maintaining legal compliance in an increasingly regulated world for businesses.

She is based in the West Midlands.

Adrian Cooper

After a long career in Spatial Planning in Shropshire and the West Midlands, in 2019 Adrian established and led a small specialist professional team to develop and deliver Shropshire Council’s climate change and carbon reduction strategy. This included helping the Council to demonstrate leadership by example and the provision of advice to help businesses and communities across the county with their own response. Adrian also led the development of ground-breaking projects on biochar, renewable energy generation, EV charging infrastructure and hydrogen transport fuel.

Adrian joined Clean Tech Business Group in 2024 and can offer extensive recent experience in the development and application of corporate carbon management and climate change adaptation strategies, carbon literacy training and practical measures to help improve performance.

He is based in the West Midlands.
