Consider this. When you spend £1.80 for a litre of diesel for your company car, van or lorry, around £0.63 is used to make the vehicle move. £1.17 is wasted, mostly going out the exhaust pipe, the remainder being turned into heat and noise.
Emissions are a business cost. Converting money into toxic gas is a cost. Inefficient use of materials is a cost. An inefficient or poorly maintained HVAC system is a cost. Waste generation is a cost. Letting heat leak out of a building is a cost.
Here at the Clean Tech Business Group we understand that not everyone fully grasps the implications of climate change and pollution, and that not everyone cares. That’s fine.
Every single business owner will care about costs though, and given the current inflationary pressures on energy and materials, many will be feeling pain.
No business owner would dream of setting fire to bundles of cash, so why are so many slow to embrace sustainability? Is it ‘woke’? Is it an unnecessary expense?
This is our recurring message. Environmental sustainability isn’t a cost to business, it’s a tangible financial benefit. Less waste, better efficiency, means lower operating costs. An environmentally sustainable business is a good business.
