Myth of the Day – ‘We can’t afford Sustainability’
This came in from a business manager this week:
“We are very conscious that in order to reduce our carbon footprint we would have to implement some serious investment. This is something that during these difficult economic times is not viable.”
I’d never blame or criticise anyone for this. Not everyone lives and breathes sustainability, but it perfectly illustrates our challenge.
*Cutting 5-10% from your energy bill by understanding and using controls better, or simply turning stuff off? Cost £0
*Cutting your waste disposal costs by really examining waste generation and considering re-purposing? Cost £0
*Improving profitability through better resource efficiency? Cost £0
*Cutting your road fuel bills through better route optimisation and tackling engine idling? Cost £0
Maybe we should stop calling is ‘Sustainability’ and call it ‘Common Sense’ instead.
